Ondo State commission disburses N230m to 5,227 students
The Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (OSOPADEC) on Thursday disbursed N230 million to 5,227 students in oil producing communities under its 2014/2015 bursary and scholarship scheme.
The Chairman of OSOPADEC, Mr Gbenga Edema, said that the initiative was to celebrate the students who were in various tertiary institutions across the country.
“This is the first time in many years when our students will collect their scholarship without any rancour,’’ he added.
Edema, however, said that for any student to benefit from subsequent scholarship award, the CGPA must be 2.1 upward.
The chairman also called on the state government to improve on the welfare of the workers in the commission to ensure efficient service delivery.
The wife of the governor, Mrs Betty Akeredolu, reiterated her husband’s commitment to the payment of bursary.
She assured the students that the present government would continue to encourage and improve on the educational system, urging them to take their studies seriously.
Mr Bello Kindom and Mrs Omosewone Olajumoke, both beneficiaries of the scheme, lauded the state government and the commission for the gesture.
They promised that the money would be judiciously used to enhance their educational career.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that among the beneficiaries were 36 PhD and 104 M.sc degree students benefitted.
