4 Ways to Secure Your Industrial Training (IT) Placement
Getting an IT
placement to fulfill your SIWES requirements in school can be quite tasking.
Industrial Training is a great opportunity for students to get hands-on
industrial experience related to their course of study.
Majority of students
find it very difficult during their industrial training, this is because of
non-availability and also because at times students do not have the necessary
experience to go about the search. Below are four ways you can increase your
chances of success:
1. Start early
Some students love to
wait till the time to begin is there, before starting their search. This is wrong.
Those that easily get are those who have started submitting their letters to
various firms, well in advance. Therefore start early to inform those around
you and submit your letters requesting for industrial training well in advance.
2. Submit as many IT
Letters as possible
Get enough SIWES / IT
letters signed by your school’s SIWES coordinator from your school and submit
to as many related firms as you can. This will help you have as many chances as
possible.
3. Go to related firms
When you are searching
for IT space, it is vital that you go to firms or companies closely related to
your course of study. Most students focus all their efforts on oil and gas
companies, ignoring other companies that they could learn very much from. This
is wrong. Focus your attention on companies that are interested in your area of
study and you will secure a place more easily.
4. Focus on Knowledge
Most times, students
get places but reject them either because the pay is low or nonexistent. While
it is true that money is very important, that should not be the sole aim of
your Industrial training experience. So if the company has shown that you will learn
a lot, it is better for you to sacrifice monetary gain for knowledge which will
help in the future.
